Hi, everyone! We are so excited to share our latest hike with you. This will also be our FIRST travel blog where we don’t leave the country! We tend to forget about how beautiful our own state is but we had a fantastic reminder yesterday.
Black Balsam Knob hike entails a series of short trails that connect for a 5 mile loop. Looking back on the directions we managed to do this without doing exactly what the site says but if you are interested in doing the hike yourself you can find the directions here.
Working from home sometimes results in a lifestyle where work and life don’t separate. We have gotten a lot better at handling the balance over the years but even we need reminders. So yesterday when I woke up feeling happy and full of energy for the first time in a week or so I knew it was time to do something and luckily Matt agreed. This trail was recommended to us by new friends in the area and we are so happy we listened!
It took less than a mile to start hitting these amazing views. I watched Macy hike with what we like to call her “happy butt”, bouncing around with her nose in the air taking in all the scents. I saw Matt smiling as he voiced his amazement at the world around us. And then I felt it. I felt happy, I felt inspired, and I felt like the luckiest woman on Earth.
Is that really all it takes? A hike, a campfire under the stars, a drive on a country road? For me, I think the answer is yes. I literally JUST opened a fortune cookie and it says “this is a wonderful time in your life to look inward for answers (seriously could I have opened that in a better moment?). I am just a few days away from my third trimester so between hauling up the extra weight and trying to hike while my daughter tried to kick her way out of me, I thought a lot about her yesterday. The change of scenery meant I wasn’t worried about her navigating the insanity of politics or worrying about her college fund. I was thinking about what a beautiful world and life we can give her as long as we are willing to take the time.
Taking the time, no matter what your situation, can be easier said than done. I would imagine that having children only strengthens that dilemma even though that could be when taking the time is most important. I hope we can all find a way to give ourselves and our children a life that inspires, makes you happy, makes you feel thankful- whatever that looks like for you.
