How Riding a Motorcycle Opened my Eyes

How Riding a Motorcycle Opened my Eyes

Happy Friday everyone!! So I have to tell you, I have been having an AMAZING few days. The weather has so cool and sunny, we have been slowing down (typical for this time of year), I got to go hiking twice this week, AND I am back into reading. To be honest, this week has me feeling like a 28 year old retired person.

Last night I went on a date with Matt that started with a spontaneous motorcycle ride. Now just to preface this- I usually don't go on the bike. My helmet is awful and it starts to hurt within 30 minutes, the jacket is huge on me, and I usually can't manage to enjoy the ride without thinking about the list of things I should be doing back at home. Yesterday was different.

We had no destination. We went into Old Fort which is a historic town and home to Andrew's Geyser. When we saw the signs for it we got all excited then learned it is man-made!!! We were so looking forward to seeing a natural geyser- NOPE! Still, we found a neat hidden roadway through Pisgah National Forest and a new hiking trail, all because we were willing to get away from the house for an hour.

Being on the bike really opened my eyes. It reminded me how important being carefree every once in a while can be. Though it may not seem like it, we can get pretty stuck in our routine. It is really hard for us to leave our work behind and we rarely get out of the house unless we have something planned far in advance. I feel like that type of routine was even tougher to get out of when we were working regular jobs, but being on the bike reminded me how beneficial it is to pull away from that, even if just for a few hours.

So I want to share in that leisure with you! Now that it is getting colder we are doing a little more hiking, a lot more reading, and some baby prep. I plan to start sharing that with you week to week, and I would love to hear what you are doing to enjoy the change of season! Let me know in the comments below! If you have a trail or book suggestion I would love to hear it.
