Blueberry BBQ Sauce

Posted by Simply Pallets on

Over the last two months we managed to pick close to 70 pounds of blueberries. That isn't a typo! We have 28 mature blueberry bushes that have been producing like crazy! We gave some away, made lots of jelly,  and ate plenty (Macy too!), but we still had gallons in the freezer! So I was pretty thrilled when I found a blueberry BBQ sauce recipe online. It was something totally different, and something I could think of many uses for.

I cooked up the original recipe and tried it out on friends. The flavor was good but something was missing (the blue chicken was a little strange too!). I found it! I added a bit more vinegar then threw in the jalapenos. Perfection! A tangy and sweet combination with just the right amount of spice. We have used it on both chicken and pork, but it would be great on a burger or even just as a dipping sauce for fries. We hope you enjoy it no matter which way you choose!

Ingredients

2.5 cups fresh/frozen blueberries

3/4 cups ketchup

3/4 cup white vinegar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 jalapeno peppers, sliced thin (optional)

Salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste

Directions

Pour all ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to let mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring regularly.

That's it! Enjoy hot or store in refrigerator for later use.
